We
are based approximately seven miles from the Welsh border town of
Monmouth, and have been breeding horses for nearly 40 years. Originally
breeding Welsh Cobs and Welsh Ponies, and with the introduction of
thoroughbred bloodlines the Stud has become recognised for specialising
in the breeding of athletic Welsh Part-Bred performance horses.
The
Lan Garth Stud
was founded by Mrs Dorothy Evans and her daughter Mrs
Deidre Powell in the 1960’s and they have now been joined by Mrs Evans's
granddaughter Judith Powell. As well as taking an active part in the
stud duties, riding and competing with the Stallions and Young stock,
Judith was the Young Ambassador for the Welsh Pony and Cob Society in
2006 and represented the Society both in the U.K. and abroad. Mrs
Dorothy Evans, in recognition to long interest in the breeding quality
Welsh Ponies and Cobs has been made an Honorary Life Member of the Welsh
Pony and Cob Society and still takes a keen interest in Stud matters.
Lan Garth Stud has a careful selective breeding programme to give ability and
temperament,
each given time to mature and grow into successful athletes competing in
many equestrian spheres. Their versatility is demonstrated by the Lan
Garth progeny’s many successes in the Eventing World with several horses
currently competing at an international level as individuals and as team
members representing Britain and the USA, as well as a number of young
horses moving up the rankings in their various spheres.
